Castrol

Castrol is a long-established lubricant brand, part of the bp group. The Castrol oils in this catalogue cover two different worlds: premium passenger car engine oils in the EDGE range and a heavy-duty diesel oil from the Vecton range.

EDGE 5W-30. These are fully synthetic oils for modern engines. The 5W-30 viscosity is a common modern grade: fluid enough for quick lubrication on a cold start while giving good film strength at temperature. The variants differ in their chemistry. A C3 oil is a mid-SAPS formulation intended for engines with diesel particulate filters or three-way catalysts, while LL (LongLife) grades follow a specific manufacturer approval. These are not interchangeable by viscosity alone, so match the approval code to the one in your handbook.

Vecton 15W-40. Heavy-duty diesel engines in trucks, buses and construction equipment use oils tested to API CK-4 and ACEA E9 levels. These classifications address soot handling, oxidation stability and wear protection in engines with modern exhaust aftertreatment. Check the engine maker's list of accepted approvals before changing oil in fleet vehicles.

The most reliable way to choose is to start with the specification in the owner's manual, then confirm viscosity and approval on the product page. Follow the service interval of the vehicle maker and replace the oil filter at each change.
