Choosing the right oil
SAE 50 is the thickest engine grade in this line. It suits post-war classic engines whose handbook asks for a 50 weight oil, often engines with generous bearing clearances or ones that run hot. It is a poor choice for a modern or tight engine that asks for a thin oil.
With a pour point of -12 °C this is a warm-weather oil. If the car is used in winter, consider whether a multigrade such as Classic Multigrade 20W-50 is a better fit; a straight 50 is thick on a cold start.
The product is described as lightly to moderately detergent, with no risk of loosening old deposits, so it is suitable for switching engines that have not been cleaned inside.
